JULIE COHN’S TRANSPARENT WATERCOLOR SUPPLY LIST

Recommended Minimum Supplies Required for Any Subject:
Colors: BUY professional brands only! DON’T BUY Academy or Cotman brands.
Buy the minimum colors needed: a red, yellow, blue and green. I recommend:
- - Permanent Rose (Winsor Newton is the best)
- - Lemon Yellow or Permanent Yellow (Holbein brand) is most cost effective
- - Ultramarine Blue (DaVinci or Winsor Newton brands)
- - Bamboo Green (Holbein) is the first choice; Viridian Green (Winsor Newton) is
second choice

Additional Materials:

- - Arches 140 Cold Press Watercolor Paper in the block or as separate large sheets (one sheet is fine for the first class).
- - 3 medium sized yogurt containers.
- - A large white or clear surface for mixing paints (plastic is fine).
- - An old rag.

As you gain more watercolor experience, add the following supplies to your minimum list:
Colors: The list of colors on the next page includes an acronym for each color, the preferred brand based on quality and price, and an abbreviation of the subjects for which the color is especially effective (only a matter of opinion).
P = portraiture, L = landscape, F = flowers.

For example:
Sap Green (sg) (American Journey) L/P/F
sg = Abbreviation; American Journey = preferred brand; L/P/F = use for landscape,
portraiture and flowers

All of these brands can be ordered online at www.cheapjoes.com
or by calling Cheap Joes at 1 (800) 227-2788.
