Julie Cohn’s Watercolor, Oils, Cartooning and Design Classes

WEEKLY AND MONTHLY CLASSES IN BERKELEY AND MARIN

Mondays are for Beginners! - 2xs per month from 9:30 to 12:30 in the Berkeley studio
You are welcome to join anytime. I qualify you as a beginner if you have never painted with watercolor or you have been painting continually for less than a year.

Tuesday Classes, Berkeley
Open Program: Tuesdays 9:30 am to 12:30 pm - Weekly
Enjoy an open program of non-toxic media such as watercolor, cartooning and water-soluble oils (thin oil paints that clean with soap and water). I offer demonstrations of new projects and demonstrations based on student interest. Let me know which Tuesdays you can come (24 hour notice for coming to class or canceling).  Classes usually range from four to eight people. Fee is $40.00 per class of three or more.  Students pay in advance either $150.00 or $200.00 and come to class when they can.

Wednesday Classes, College of Marin
The Flow of Watercolor: Landscape Techniques 2:10 to 5:00 pm, September 14– October 26
Plunge into the natural world and bring it to life with paint! Learn techniques for painting trees, shrubs, grasses, rocks, sky, and water. We will also cover composition and how to fully integrate your foreground, middle ground, and background so that you will dynamically draw in the viewer. Please bring your own photos as reference material. All levels of ability are welcome. Continuing students may choose to work independently. Individual attention will be given as time allows. The Flow of Watercolor: Lakes and Reflections
2:10 to 5:00 pm, November – December 14.
   
Lakes can be tranquil and composed, or they can burst with energy -- turbulent and riotous. Paint the contemplative and charismatic movement of water as it reflects trees, sky, buildings, and boats. Let watercolor move on its own to depict still water. Use brisk movements and calligraphic watercolor strokes to produce fast-moving, energetic water. Please bring your own photos as reference material. All levels of ability are welcome. Continuing students may choose to work independently. Individual attention will be given as time allows. Thursday Classes, Berkeley
Drawing Essentials:Still Life, Landscape, Portrait and Figure (Thursday mornings starting in January – sign up early!)
Thursdays 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, 4 Classes –Every Two Weeks   Learn drawing basics for still life, landscape, portrait and figure. Build confidence as you master all the essentials for drawing in a direct manner.  Fee is $40.00 per class, $150.00 for a complete session of four classes.
Perspective Drawing for Still Life, Landscape, Portrait and Figure Thursdays
Build onto the skill level you developed during my Drawing Essentials Class or build onto your previous drawing experience. Learn how to apply one and two point perspective, as well as aerial and diminutive perspective to still life, landscape, portraits and figures, one subject covered per class time.    Fee is $40.00 per class, $150.00 for a complete session of four classes.

Thursday Classes, Marin and Berkeley
Plein Air Classes (1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month)
as weather permits, 9:30 am to 12:30 pm.
We will meet on locations in Berkeley and Marin and I will start each session with a talk and demonstration.  We find beautiful places to paint. I encourage your finding a focal point in your artwork and letting go of fears so that joy and life can emerge from your paintings.

Friday Classes, Berkeley
Advanced Beginners and Beyond Watercolor Class  (Ongoing 6 week sessions. Jump in any time! ) 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm We explore a different subject every six weeks, delving into a variety of styles and techniques. Critiques are lively and students are very supportive of each other. Be ready to stretch!   Fee is $240.00. Should you know in advance of the class that you can’t make one or two sessions, pay $200.00 or $160.00.

Saturday Classes, Berkeley This class will start again in January, 2012.
Through the Eyes of Masters 
9:30 am to 12:30 pm, Continuing class from November 2010,
12 Monthly Sessions

An Advanced Class focusing on thematic content and development of style in painting. All students have experience in a variety of two dimensional media. Fee $45.00 per time or $240.00 for 6 months.

Saturday Classes, Berkeley, Beginners and Beyond
Open Program
1 pm to 4 or 5 pm, depending on number of students  -  Monthy
Enjoy an open program of non-toxic media such as watercolor, cartooning and water-soluble oils (thin oil paints that clean with soap and water). I offer demonstrations of new projects and demonstrations based on student interest. Relax and let go on the weekend! Fee is $55.00 per class.

Five DayWorkshop: Abstracting Your Inner and Outer Landscape, Berkeley
Class will meet from 9 am to 1:30 pm every day from Monday, January 24 to Friday, January 28. We will have a 45 minute lunch break at 11:45 each day.  On Thursday I would enjoy having lunch with all of you at a restaurant nearby. On that day we will paint until 2 pm. 
In this workshop, “landscape”, can mean your inner feelings, or landscapes viewed in your mind’s eye or photos. Learn to paint abstract paintings on a medium and larger scale. “Abstract” means “to take from reality,” so I will encourage you use your own photos of landscapes as inspiration and/or delve into an imaginative landscape! Develop the ability to emote about your past, present, dreams and visions with compositional ideas, textural passages and color that excites you! Fee is $290.00.
